Eleuthera comes from the Greek word for freedom: The first settlers were 17th century English Puritans who were fleeing religious persecution and who became stranded on Eleuthera. In fact
they were the first settlers on the Bahamas.
Today, celebrities who appreciate the peace and seclusion of the island chill out here. Lenny Kravitz has even dedicated a song to the place.
The island is also famous for its pink sand and long dreamy beaches.
